The General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees started yesterday in Athens. The President of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine, Olympic champion Sergey Bubka took part in the 50th forum together with other delegates of the National Olympic Committees representing 49 countries of the continent.

IOC President reiterates role of sport for dialogue and peace
The significant power of sport for promoting peace and social harmony was emphasised on Thursday (3 June 2021) by the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, at the opening of a conference entitled “Can sport diplomacy contribute to building a stronger Europe in the world?”. The event was hosted by the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU).

Athlete well-being and support at heart of discussions at International Athletes’ Forum 2021
Held for the first time in a virtual format on Athlete365, and with invitations extended to all athlete representatives worldwide, the 10th edition of the International Athletes’ Forum (IAF) got underway today. Almost 2,000 athletes and Olympian representatives registered to take part and came together for the two-day event, which also marked the 40th anniversary of the IOC Athletes’ Commission (AC) this year.

CYCLING JOINS EUROPEAN GAMES 2023 WITH TWO DISCIPLINES

Today, on April 6, the world celebrates the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. Initiated in 2013 by the United Nations in partnership with the International Olympic Committee, it aims to remind us of the life-affirming and consolidating power of sport. A white card, the symbol of this day, is a manifestation of support for peace and an opportunity for development through sports activities. After all, sport is the factor that unites people irrespective of their nationality, faith, convictions, and healthy lifestyle together with physical activity are the keys to our common prosperity and well-being.

SPORT CLIMBING, TRIATHLON JOIN EUROPEAN GAMES 2023
The sports programme for the European Games Krakow-Malopolska 2023 continues to grow with the inclusion today of sport climbing and triathlon. Sport climbing, which is set to make its Olympic Games debut this summer at Tokyo 2020, will be making its first appearance at the European Games in 2023, and will offer qualifying opportunities for the following year’s Olympic Games Paris 2024.

Olympic and Paralympic winter games Milano Cortina 2026 winning emblem revealed
Earlier today, “Futura” was revealed as the official emblem of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026. This followed a global public vote held between 7 and 25 March 2021, launched to select one of two emblem designs. Just over 871,000 votes were cast from 169 countries around the world, with around 75 per cent of entries selecting “Futura” as their favourite.

The International Olympic Committee has congratulated the Tokyo 2020 organising committee on the start of the Tokyo 2020 olympic torch relay in Fukushima, Japan. The grand start of the olympic torch relay marks the start of the olympic flame’s journey across all of japan’s 47 prefectures, before it arrives in Tokyo for the opening of the Olympic games on 23 july this year.

In his opening speech to the 137th Session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) – the second remote IOC Session in Olympic history – IOC President Thomas Bach today emphasised the optimism created by the successful organisation of over 270 major sports events with measures in place to safeguard the health of all involved.
